A line of options available that run along the top of a window. When one of the words in the menu bar is selected, a further list of options is displayed beneath the word (this is called a dropdown menu). For example, almost all Windows programs have a menu bar that starts with the word File. If you select File, it displays the options that includes Open, Save and Exit.
